Around 70 people braved 90 degrees heat on the streets of Rye last Sunday afternoon in order to enjoy the full and partial shade of Little Orchard House garden for the annual Rye Conservation Society garden party!

And they were able to also enjoy one of the finest cream teas in Sussex. But, to quote former Rye MP, the Duke of Wellington, ” it was a damn close run-thing!

A traffic jam on Rye Hill due to the popularity of Camber Sands held up the delivery of all the pre-prepared food. But thanks to  the cream tea makers’ decision to drive to the venue from Point Hill via Peasmarsh and Udimore the tea was waiting for guests when they arrived rather being stuck on Rye Hill!

John Griffiths, chairman of Rye Conservation Society said: “Once again the Society was grateful to Jen and David Tomkinson and Rae Festing for the preparation of the food and to Andy and Niki Stuart who kindly opened their fascinating garden for the Society’s use.”
