Rye 1st XI
Rye 230-6,  Rottingdean  207

Rye hosted Rottingdean, in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, knowing that a win was needed to stay on track for the league title. Rye skipper Harry Smeed won the toss and choose to bat first on a decent looking wicket.

Rye new opening pair of Sandun Dias (30) and James Hamilton (30) got off to the perfect start putting on 53 for the first wicket. George Wathen (21) contributed to keep the score ticking along, but at 94-3 the game looked in the balance until Smeed (74) and Fin Thomson (39) forged a great partnership and took the attack to the Rottingdean spinners, adding 94 runs together, Micky Toomey scored a quick fire 12 not out to boost the team up to a great score of 230-6., with Tommy Nunn dispatching the final ball for six.

Rye bowlers got off to a good start, with Dias claiming a wicket with the fourth ball of the innings. Rottingdean where struggling at 44-2 but Henry Ledden began to rebuild the innings alongside his brother George and Rye knew that these two wickets where going to be the key to winning the game. Wathen claimed the wicket of Henry Ledden for 45 and Rottingdean where stuttering at 89-3 with wickets beginning to fall regularly. At 141-6, Rye looked in control but George Ledden was still there and alongside Tyrrell (30) they seemed to be taking Rottingdean towards a victory, but Harry Smeed ripped through the last four wickets to claim figures 5-33 to give Rye a much needed victory. Wathen (2-37) bowled a tight spell and Dias ended up with great figures of 2-28. Rye travel to St James this Saturday, looking to claim back to back wins, as they seek the sole promotion spot from Division 5 East.

Rye 2nd XI
Rottingdean IIs 191-6, Rye IIs 172

Rye travelled to the league leaders in confident mood, off a 9 match unbeaten run, and a previous convincing win over Rottingdean. However, Rye fell just short by 19 runs, careless batting costing them victory. Rye had restricted Rottingdean to 95-5, thanks to tight bowling by Nick Paine, 2-20 off 9 overs, and Ollie Rhys Jones 2-35. Rottingdean added another 96 runs for the loss of only one wicket as Titlow made 46 not out.

Rye’s response was built around Spencer Fielding’s 62, but he could not find a partner, as Aaron Lees took 6-29, twice being on a hat trick. A final flourish from Nick Paine (15*) out was unable to make a difference, Rye losing for the first time since early June.

Rye 3rd XI
Crowhurst Park 4th XI 160,  Rye 3rd XI 101

Rye third team travelled to fellow promotion contenders Crowhurst Park for their latest division II fixture and on winning the toss asked the home side to bat first.

An opening partnership of 92 between Aaron Durelli and Archie Fairfax-Ross (35) gave Crowhurst Park a steady start until George Channon bowled the latter, as he claimed figures of 1-12 from 5 overs. The introduction of Sean Baker into the attack soon resulted in more regular wickets, which included Durelli, who had scored 56. Sean Baker went on to finish with bowling figures of 7-14 from 8.1 overs, all of his wickets being bowled. Mike Stoneham (1-47) claimed the wicket of Colin Ayres (12) and Ollie Constable finished on 19 not out as the home side were dismissed for 160 in 36.1 overs.

After tea, Crowhurst Park made an early break through with the bowling of Durelli and continued to take regular wickets, as he finished with figures of 5-10. Anthony Cousins provided resistance, scoring 35 before he was later bowled by Ollie Constable (2-18) his other wicket being that of Freddie MacKenzie (14). Max Goodsell was the only other Rye batsmen to reach double figures, scoring 20, as his was the last wicket to fall to Tom Ayres (1-14) as Rye were dismissed for 101. The other Crowhurst Park wicket taker was Max Wookey (2-17).

This Saturday the 1st Xl travel to St James IIs and the 2nd Xl host Ansty 2nd Xl at The Rye Cricket Salts in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn.
