Saturday November 10 and as the town of Rye prepared for its highly anticipated annual bonfire night, Rye Town Football Club, following last weeks heavy 1-4 defeat at the hands of Sidley, required some fireworks of their own as they travelled to Hawkhurst in this East Sussex Premier League clash.

What a start! Town went off like a rocket with Sammy Foulkes netting in the 14th minute.  Fourteen minutes later Dom Cruttenden doubled the lead. A banger from Charlie Stevens in the 44th minute put Rye Town FC into a three goal commanding lead, but on the stroke of half time Hawkhurst pulled a goal back and the teams went into the interval with Town 3-1 up.  What a first half display!

The goal by Hawkhurst just before the break gave the team momentum and in the second half they were the sparklers.  With goals in the 59th and 75th minutes respectively, the home side were now on fire.  The two goals gave them a share of the spoils as the game ended in a 3-3 draw and a point apiece.

Rye Town FC will be kicking themselves for letting a three goal lead slip and allowing the game to spin on its head like a lively Catherine wheel.  Town’s man of the match award went to Dom Cruttenden and the game sponsors were EW Production Services Ltd.

Town’s next fixture is an away match to St Leonards Social, on Saturday November 17, kick off 2pm.  The match will be sponsored by Pete the Pane Window Cleaning Services.

On Saturday November 24 Town host Hawkhurst in the ESFL Premier Travel Chauffeurs Challenge Cup.  As this is a cup tie and extra time may be required, kick off is at 1:30pm at Rye Rugby Club.  Game Sponsors are The Mermaid Inn, Rye.
