Battling the elements

The wet weather has seen a frustrating start to the season. So far it always seems to rain on Tuesdays and Thursdays meaning cancelled practices and games. The U16s have already lost 2 fixtures to the elements.

Mondays have proved dry and the U11a team made it 2 wins in 2. This team defeating Boughton & Eastwell by 86 runs. The whole team made a contribution, losing only one wicket in the 4 Pairs batting format, with Charlie Cooke 29 and skipper Luke Rogers 21 leading the way. The bowling was also a good team effort as Rye took 7 wickets, Luke Rogers with 3 and Cooper Wisby with 2.

The U11b team lost away to Mersham. Against a much older team the young Rye players showed plenty of potential, with players scoring their first boundaries and taking their first wickets.

Next week is half term so no fixtures, but practice continues on Tuesday for the U11s and U13s and U16s on Wednesday.

Softball cricket has started on Fridays. 6-7pm for 7-9 year olds and 7-8pm for 10-12 year olds. The cost is £30 for 8 weeks including a Club Shirt. Tasters are on offer … come down and get a young person started playing this wonderful game.

Rye CC is also running an after school club at Rye Primary on Mondays 3.15pm – 4.15pm. Once again we welcome newcomers to give it a try.
