The 1st football team of Icklesham Casuals, playing their first game since December 12 on Saturday February 13 because of the weather, recorded a 4-1 win at Icklesham Recreation Ground.

Following a slow start the side began to get into the game and were rewarded with a goal from young Joe Fraser after 20 minutes. Early in the second half Steffan Davies struck a superb free kick into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.

Peche Hill rallied and pulled a goal back despite going down to ten men after a harsh second yellow card.

Icklesham finally took control late in the game with a strike from the Brazilian wonder that is Val Newman who scored from close range. The final goal came from a loose ball tucked into the top right corner by undoubtedly the oldest scorer in the league that day, 55-year-old Martin Tytherleigh.

Match officials come in for a lot of criticism, but, this week, a mention for the referee, Javier Diaz Estrella, who controlled the game excellently.

The 2nd team were due to play St Leonards but, once again, the weather intervened and the match had to be called off.
