The 2nd team of Icklesham Casuals produced their best performance of the season on Saturday with a 5-0 win against Sedlescombe Rangers III.
After a shaky opening the Casuals played some good football and started to create chances, with Joe Maylam breaking the deadlock and Phil Badrock adding a second before half time.
Sedlescombe began the second period as the better team but an Adam Sully free-kick which went directly into the bottom corner of the net made it 3-0. Sedlescombe then had a goal disallowed for hand ball before substitute Mason Maddox and Solly Cooke added further goals. Icklesham made good use of the new roll-on substitute rule making nine changes in total during the game.
The 1st team were due to be in action at home in the second round of the Sussex Junior Cup but West Sussex League opponents the Crown from Littlehampton were unable to field a team. The side will be away to Horsham Crusaders II in the third round with the game due to be played at the beginning of December.
The veterans (aided by a few ‘young veterans’ to even the teams up!) played an enjoyable friendly against a strong Sidley United Veterans side at the Recreation Ground on Sunday morning. After an even opening 20 minutes it was Sidley who took the lead following a mistake and added two further goals in two minutes just after the half-hour mark to be 3-0 ahead at the interval.
Sidley increased their lead further with two goals in a minute in the 52nd and 53rd minutes but Icklesham didn’t give up and reduced the arrears on 58 minutes when Sean Baker converted a penalty after a foul on Val Newman and Newman set up Phil Badrock three minutes later to make it 5-2. The Casuals had a number of chances to reduce the deficit further but the game finished 5-2.
This Saturday, November 10, the 1st team take on Bexhill United II at the Polegrove with the match kicking-off at 12:30pm while the 2nd team are at home to Sovereign Saints II.
