Rye Cricket Club is hosting its AGM on Sunday, January 30 at 7pm in the Sidney Allnutt Pavilion at the Rye Cricket Salts.

The meeting offers the opportunity to reflect on the successes of 2021 and the exciting plans for the 2022 season.

Last season the 1st X1 finished 2nd in the Sussex League Division East, losing to Findon in a play-off for promotion to Division 2. The highest finish in the club’s history, with a team who were mainly the product of the club’s Colts system. The U11A team won the Ashford league whilst a member of the U11B team won both the batting and the bowling awards for the league.

After the end of the season, the club ran coaching sessions through the autumn for both softball and hardball for the junior section, and has been running cricket club at Rye College on Wednesday afternoons to re introduce cricket into the school. In the spring term the college will be playing fixtures again, with games already arranged with Claremont School.

The committee has been working on a number of projects to provide better facilities at the Salts, improvements to the maintenance of the pitches, and to carry out a refurbishment of the pavilion. These plans will be announced at the AGM, and provide exciting opportunities moving forward.

As part of the drive to develop the club, it is seeking people who can offer skills and time to support these developments. In particular the club is seeking a manager to look after the running of the pavilion, and a person to take on the role of fund raising manager. Job descriptions are available.

As Rye approaches its 280th season of cricket in 2023, it is vibrant and optimistic, and we welcome members of the local community to join us, either as players, young or old, as volunteers, or just to come and watch and spend time on Rye’s Cricket Salts.
