Rye Cricket Club enjoyed a busy day last Saturday, April 1, as part of Natwest Cricket Force Weekend. Twenty volunteers spent the day in the pavilion and on the Cricket Salts getting the club ready for the new season. Jobs included rolling the wicket, installing improved sightscreens, tiling and painting the kitchen and bar area, and making good to the ground around the pavilion. Not only is the pavilion ready for cricket, but it is ready for people to hire for events, or to be used by clubs and societies looking for a venue. Rye Town FC have enjoyed their use of the pavilion, and are hopeful to extend their usage from September. Rye Runners are using the pavilion as well on Saturday mornings.

Everything is starting to look good for the forthcoming season. Pre season games commence on Sunday April 23 away to Mayfield, then home to Dover Cosmpolitans. On Friday April 28 at 7:30pm the club will be holding its Signing On Evening, with the opportunity for members to meet Rye’s two Overseas Players, Shakeem Clarke and Sachin Jha.

Then Junior Cricket gets underway on April 25 as the Under 15s travel to Boughton and the Under 13s host Mersham A on April 27. The first coaching session outdoors begins on Friday May 5, at 6-7pm for boys and girls aged 5-13, and from 7-8pm for boys and girls aged 14-17.
