Cricket club season commences

On a Saturday afternoon more akin to winter than spring, Rye Cricket Club got the 2024 season underway. Rye batted first and scored 169 all out in 40 overs. Reuben Collingwood 67 and Aussie Dylan Harrison-Smith 31 shared an 80 run opening partnership and James Hamilton chipped in 26. In reply, Cowdrey eased past the target in 34 overs with six wickets down. Skipper Harry Smeed and Dylan Harrison-Smith both picked up two wickets.

The real story was the immense effort put in by volunteers to get the wicket and the ground in a fit state to play – an indication of the growing challenge in maintaining cricket on the Rye Cricket Salts. A big thank you to all involved.

This Saturday’s pre-season fixture is cancelled, as opponents Staplehurst are unable to field a side. Instead there will be a net session on the Salts. On Wednesday evenings adult / U16s practice sessions take place 6pm – 8pm. Why not come down and try your skills, as we offer the 1st XI in Division 3 East , the 2nd XI in Division 7 East and the 3rd XI in Division 12 SE.
