Recently, Rye’s Colts Manager Martin Blincow was presented with an award by the England and Wales Cricket Board at a ceremony at the University of Warwick, recognising an outstanding contribution to coaching in Sussex.
The nomination read: “Martin holds the roles of secretary, Colts manager, and coach for Rye CC. During the close season, Martin arranges and carries out cricket taster sessions in the local primary schools to introduce the next generation of cricketers to the game. They then attend the indoor training sessions through the winter months, before moving to the outside coaching evenings once the season starts. These sessions are organised and run by Martin.”
Rye has 81 Colts on the books from All Stars to U15s. Each Friday evening throughout the summer they can be seen over two sessions enjoying coaching from Martin and his team. This also forms a social meeting place for parents. Four teams from Rye CC play in the Ashford and District Junior Cricket League where Martin is fixture secretary.
Nearly every weekday evening throughout the summer, Martin is either coaching at the club or running a Colts game home or away. Across the club’s adult league teams on a Saturday well over half of the players have been coached by Martin at some point in their cricketing career.
