Rye 1st X1 continued their positive start to the Season with a convincing 7 wicket win away to Ashford Town. Ashford won the toss and decided to bat first. They went off quickly with 50 off 6 overs as overseas player Carl Mumba searched for the right length. With pace off the ball, Rye made inroads into the Ashford batting as George Wathen took 2-8 and Harry Smeed 3-21. Ashford finally amassed 207-9.
Rye set off in chase, led by Reuben Collingwood with 41, and after his dismissal, young guns Jackson Woodcock (71 not out) and Luke Payton (62 not out) shared a 140 run partnership to take Rye to victory with 4 overs to spare.
Rye 2nd X1s lost narrowly by 2 runs to Ashford Town 2nd X1 at home. Ashford 2nd X1 batted first and started at 5 an over, as Aussie overseas player Kyle Scott sought to find the right length in Rye, compared to Adelaide. Just as in the 1st X1 game, pace off the ball slowed the runs, as Fin Thomson and Martin Blincow squeezed the run rate. Rye rotated the bowling, giving 8 players the opportunity to get into the season. Callum Haddaway 2-16 was the most successful. Ashford reached 188-8.
Rye’s reply was led by Fin Thomson with 50. Rye, though, kept losing wickets. Skipper Ellis Hatter with 33, marshalled the lower order as Ryan Dowdeswell hit 25 and Callum Haddaway 19. Rye, however, fell short by 2 runs, as they were dismissed off the penultimate ball of the game.
