After the disappointments of the previous week, Rye bounced back last Saturday. The 1st Xl travelled to early league leaders in Division 3, East Lindfield 1sts. Lindfield batted first and posted an imposing 241-7 off 45 overs. Imesh Udayangahit, 103 not out, including ten 4s and four 6s. He was supported by Harry Moorat, 82. The pick of the Rye bowlers was Harry Smeed 3-40 and Fin Thomson 2-51, whilst overseas Chanuka Dilshan was the most economical.

Rye’s reply stuttered on 13-2, but then Fin Thomson, 117 not out and Jackson Woodcock, 62, shared a 153 run partnership. It put Rye in the right position for Luke Payton to hit 35 off 11 balls as Rye eased past the target with four overs to spare. Max Kidman, hit for 45 off three overs, suffered the most of the Lindfield bowlers.

This Saturday the 1st Xl host Bexhill 1sts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. They will be looking to build on this solid performance.

The 2nds also bounced back with a victory over Hellingly 1st Xl. Rye posted 229-9 off 40 overs thanks to Matt Cooke, 121 and Mark Cook, 50 not out. They shared a 137 run partnership. Rye then frittered away wickets instead of really kicking on as Martin Dunthorne took 4-46. Hellingly responded positively with the bat. They moved to 107-3 as Michael Williams hit 47 and Nathaniel Dixon 25. The introduction of spin saw a fall of wickets and the run rate slowed as Ben Clifton 2-29 and Martin Blincow 2-35 removed the middle order. Ross Pierce 2-21 and Mark Cook 2-58 chipped in and despite Paul Kirk’s spirited 44, Hellingly finished on 204-9 in 40 overs.

This Saturday, Rye 2nds travel to Little Common Ramblers 2nds. The 3rds at Icklesham host Herstmonceux 3rds after their free week in the league.

After the half term break, junior cricket resumes next week. On Monday the U11a host Folkestone at Rye and the U11b team host Tenterden U11b team at Icklesham. On Tuesday the U15s travel to Tenterden and on Thursday the U13s host Tenterden U13s.
