Despite the last Saturday of the season producing a hat trick of defeats, the 2019 season remains highly successful. Both the 1st and 2nd Xls achieved their highest-ever finish in the Sussex Cricket Pyramid.

On Saturday evening, August 31, The Junior Presentation recognised the hard work of all. On Friday September 6 the club’s Annual Dinner will be held in The Richard Merricks Room of the pavilion, during which the Annual Adult Awards will be made.

Rye 1st XI v Hastings 2nd XI
A lacklustre end of season display against already-relegated Hastings Priory 2nds. Rye started positively, winning the toss and choosing to bat. Rye scored 220-9 off 45 overs. Rye Concepts MOM Harry Smeed top-scored with 56 and was supported by an excellent innings of 46 by Dan Seabrook, and a late flurry of 23 not out from Spencer Fielding. However Rye allowed Priory to get off to a flyer as the opening bowlers conceded 80 runs off the opening 8 overs. From that point Rye were unable to reel in the Priory batsmen. Sujith Peera scored a very good 110 not out to take Priory to victory by 8 wickets with 7 overs to spare.
Rye 2nd XI v Willingdon 1st XI
Rye 2nds hosted Willingdon 1st Xl in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn. Willingdon, already promoted, won the toss and batted. Rye have bowled and fielded well all season, gaining more bowling points than any other team. On this occasion they dismissed Willingdon for 173 in 35 overs. Pick of the bowlers was Ben Clifton for 5-20 off 8 overs. Willingdon got off to a flyer at 103-2 but the introduction of Ben Clifton brought the innings to a standstill. In reply Rye 2s’ inconsistency with the bat re-emerged as they were dismissed for 91. Rye fell to 37-7, but only Monty Hinge, 37 not out, offered resistance as Rye finally got to 91.
Willingdon 3rd XI v Rye 3rd XI
Rye third team hosted Willingdon thirds for their final league game of the season and on winning the toss asked the visitors to bat first.
Willingdon got off to a good start with an opening partnership of 63 before both openers fell victim to the bowling of Tony Collins (2-28 from 7 overs) which included Mohamed Shakeil Siraj being well caught on the boundary having scored 34 with Willingdon on 84-2. A third-wicket partnership of 128 came to an end when the returning George Jempson (1-34 from 9 overs) bowled Graham Hatfield for 51. Ross Fielder finished on 95 not out as Willingdon reached the end of their allotted overs on 248-3.
After tea Willingdon made an early breakthrough through the bowling of Alvin Manoj (1-38) before a second wicket partnership of 63 steadied the innings. Tony Collins (24) then became the first batsmen to fall to the bowling of Ross Fielder. Wickets then fell at more regular intervals with Scott Haiselden (44) and George Jempson (14) being dismissed by Graham Hatfield (2-21) leaving Rye on 127-5. A sixth wicket partnership of 36 concluded when James Jury was caught on the boundary having scored 20 off the bowling of Caleb Scott (2-37). Seb Cameron-Clarke (14) became the second wicket of Fielder who finished with figures of 2-22. David Jempson finished on 18 not out as Rye reached 208-8 from their 40 overs. The other batsmen to reach double figures for Rye was Alex Stone (10).
