1st XI
Rye got back to winning ways away to Lindfield. Rye skipper Gary Willis again lost the toss but surprisingly Lindfield opted to bat first. They got off to an incredibly slow start making only 41 runs from the opening 20 overs for the loss of two wickets – one apiece for Sandun Dias and Craig Pierce, who bowled a lengthy opening spell of 14 overs conceding only 17 runs. Harry Smeed was introduced and he settled into his work ripping through the middle order to end up with figures of five for 45, George Wathen (one for 32) and Gary Willis (one for 22) were the other wicket takers and a run out ended the Lindfield innings. Only Aryan Choudhury (50) could put any pressure on Rye as Lindfield posted a below-par 180.
Rye’s formidable opening pair of Dias and Wathen went about chasing the runs down, quickly putting on another 50-run opening stand. Wathen played aggressively and raced to a well-made 71. Smeed again was in the runs, scoring a brisk 43 as he fell with only 6 runs to win. Fin Thomson finished the game off as he ended up 27 not out. Rye chased the runs down in only 23.4 overs meaning a comprehensive win was complete. Rye host Hellingly on Saturday July 15, looking for revenge after they suffered a defeat to them last time out.
2nd XI
Rye 2nds entertained Crowhurst Park II at The Rye Cricket Salts, in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn. Rye lost the toss and were invited to bat, making the most of the opportunity as opening pair Mark Cook (19) and John Mackenzie (38) got off to a solid start. Joe Lovell (three for 41) was the pick of the early bowlers. At 89 for three, Ollie Rhys Jones (85) and Spenser Fielding (58) took the game away from the visitors. They shared an 80-run partnership, and after Fielding’s demise, Rhys Jones struck the ball to all parts as Rye finished on 256 for seven off 53 overs.
Crowhurst Park never really got their innings off the ground as Rye took regular wickets, thanks to Tobias Farrow, Aaron Melrose and Ollie Rhys Jones as Crowhurst slumped to 87 for seven. Jon Message with 44 not out salvaged some batting points for Crowhurst Park, but Ben Clifton with five for 34 ensured full 30 points for Rye as Crowhurst Park were dismissed for 153.
3rd XI
Rye third team hosted Hellingly fourths in the first of the limited-overs-format matches in division 11 of the East Sussex Cricket League. On winning the toss the visitors elected to bat first.
George Channon removed both opening batsmen early in the innings. Nick Paine (one for 42) dismissed Naresh Gatta (23) and Harry Rhys-Jones (two for 24) bowled John Ottley for 20, this prompted Jon Rose and Kalyan Oruganti to punish the bowlers before the latter was caught off the bowling of Freddie Mackenzie (one for 22) having scored 57. The re-introduction of Channon resulted in the dismissal of Rose for 44. Channon then bowled the final two wickets in consecutive balls in the last over to finish with bowling figures of five for 18 from 8.2 overs. The other Rye wicket taker was Oscar Goodsell (one for 10).
Hellingly made an early breakthrough but a second-wicket partnership between Martin Duffield and Luke Payton steadied the innings and improved the Rye hopes of victory, both scoring 56 before being dismissed by Aiden Miller (one for 32) and Gatta respectively. Mackenzie scored 16 before being bowled by Gatta (two for 32). James Jury (19 not out) and Goodsell (32 not out) both looked to hit the boundary as they saw Rye to victory with 2.3 overs to spare. Meg Loveland (two for 42) was the other Hellingly wicket taker.

Colts
The Colts had a good week as the U13s defeated Mersham and the U15s defeated Egerton. The club enjoyed a fun-filled evening of Bat and Trap last Friday July 7, generating £900 for club funds as 12 teams competed for the Annual Rye CC Bat and Trap Trophy.
This week
This Saturday July 15, the 1st XI entertain Hellingly in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, the 2nd XI travel to play Buxted Park IIs and the 3rd XI travel to play Bexhill 5ths. On Monday the Under 11s have an inter club practice match, and on Wednesday the U13s travel to Mersham then on Thursday go to Wye.
