Rye Town FC 3 Punnetts Town 0
Dan K – 2 Charlie – 1
Man of the Match Ollie P

After not being with the firsts for a while, it was very nice to be involved in a very good win against a good Punnetts Town side. A first team side with a significant number of injuries started with one regular reserve player and a bench full of reserves to top up the numbers. As has been said many times before, the quality in this club is so high that it made no difference. There was a good start to the game for us with high intensity, good passing play showing how much expertise we have.
Dan started with the goals: great pressure by the forwards and midfield forced Punnetts into a mistake with “Glue Foot” Dan controlling and then firing one straight into the top corner middle of the goal to make it 1-0. One thing that I wanted to see if we went ahead was game management, and in the ten minutes left of the first half, we controlled the ball and took the sting out to ensure that we went into the second half ahead.
There was a solitary change at half time, Taylor being replaced by Charlie to save Taylor for the reserves game immediately afterwards. There were another fifteen minutes or so of good football and controlling the game, then LeBron James decided to try to dunk in our own penalty box resulting in a Punnetts penalty, which, with super Doug shaking up the taker, smashed against the bar. Having been let off we showed our class, great forward play from Callum winning a free-kick which gave Charlie the chance to show his style, riffling a free kick into the top corner from twenty-five yards out.

Another Punnetts penalty was blazed over the bar, and again it did not take us long to punish them, a wicked ball into the box from Charlie allowing Dan, whose neck must resemble a crash test dummy, to score a superb header.
Again, there was superb game management to see out the game and ensure a 3-0 win.
Special mentions must go to Teks and Charlie for playing through the pain. There were great performances all around, seeing Foulkesy running at players, Dan gliding past everyone and just the outright quality on show was brilliant to see.
One thing I would like to see moving forwards, and this is not a criticism in the slightest, I want to hear some of you young’uns leading. You’re all fantastic footballers, but I want to see a couple of you become the ones who are the motivators, leaders and talkers, the ones who others turn to to get us through the tough moments.

But a fantastic result, very well-done boys. Two more to go and let’s finish well!
Man of the Match was Ollie P. He showed his class in CDM (central defensive midfielder) and why he will go up the pyramid. Controlled the ball, dictated the play, strong in duels. Superb from start to finish.
