Following last Sunday September 23 and the last scheduled competitive match of the season against Guestling being a wash-out due to bad weather, this Sunday September 30 sees the final fling. It’s the last bowling day of 2018 with no more matches until the bowls season resumes in April 2019.
This Sunday is the annual celebration with members playing a Round Robin followed by a ‘Come One Come All’ barbecue. Members (and visitors) are asked to bring savoury or sweet food and there will also be a raffle. Everyone is welcome to the event, which is due to start around 10am.
Then commences the ‘Spider’ competition. The jack (spider) is placed in the centre of the green and the players position themselves all around the green and then bowl at the same time endeavouring to get nearest to the Spider – bowls will be crashing into each other and going everywhere but eventually they will stop and a winner selected, the prize will be a bottle of whisky.
A few weeks ago the club were visited by a family from Belgium who during their time here played on the bowls green and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
