Another week of exciting cricket. On Monday a young Under 11 team lost to Folkestone by 60 runs, undone by some very big hitting. Progress though, as only 4 wides were bowled. The Under 11A host Mersham A next week. The Under 11B Team have been confirmed as Winners of their Division without playing. They finish their season next Monday away to Tenterden B.
On Tuesday the Under 15s travelled to Tenterden who batted first and scored 144-3, with Harry Putland 2-21 and George Orpin 1-18. Then Rye knocked off the runs in the 19th over to win by 8 wickets. Harry Putland, 51 retd, Sam Channon, 38 n.o. and George Orpin, 20 n.o.. The Under 15s finish 4th in their league of 8, having beaten both teams who finished 1st and 2nd. Next Tuesday Rye host Egerton or Great Chart in the Cup.
On Thursday an understrength and underage Under 13 team travelled to Wye. Rye amassed 146-4 thanks to 9 year old Bertie Furnival, 33 retd, and Ollie Balcomb, 33 n.o. In an exciting finale the Rye bowlers dismissed Wye for 137. Debutant brothers Woody and Milo Brown took 3 wickets between them before Henry Cooke, 3-10, and Lexy Tuddenham, 2-10, finished the innings in the 20th over. Next Thursday Rye travel to Boughton in the Cup.
