Rye Bowls Club finished second in the Mermaid League in 2022 after games were cancelled for two years. The Mermaid Lawn Bowls League consists of ten clubs based in East Sussex and West Kent, and is kindly sponsored by the Mermaid Inn, Rye. Matches are played on a home and away basis, starting in May and run through to early September. At the end of this season Rye was “pipped at the post” by Fairlight, who scored 143 points to Rye’s 129.

Another successful Rye tournament, but league results fail to flatter, Ian Scott

This year’s season was noted for the need to cancel matches due to heat, as opposed to rain! But overall it was a good season in which they won 20 matches, lost eight and drew 3. One notable success was the one in Westfield Tournament over the August holiday thanks to Tony Kember, Rosemarie Crouch and Paul Coop. With the playing season over, there is just the AGM to do on Thursday, November 10 at 7.30pm in the Clubhouse.

All club members are encouraged to attend as there are some serious matters for the future to be discussed. Well done Rye Bowls Club and we look forward to seeing new faces added to the seven new members who joined this year. The 2023 season starts in May next year and anyone interested is welcome to a “roll up” to see if they would like to join and play. Contact: Club Secretary Celia Kember 01797 690
