Rye got their season off to a winning start with victory over Cowdray in a pre-season friendly. On an unusually warm pre-season Saturday, Cowdray won the toss and elected to bat. They amassed 166-6 off 40 overs. The Rye bowlers got a useful work out, including overseas player Carl Mumba, easing his body into the game after a long haul flight from Zimbabwe. George Wathen picked up two wickets, and the fielding passed muster.

In reply, Rye eased past the target in 35.5 overs, as James Hamilton made a half century supported by Fred Smith.
