Rye Sports Centre held a splashdance party for under 16s last Friday February 5 as part of the British Heart Foundation’s national “Wear It Beat It” campaign. There was a large inflatable in the red-dyed pool and lifeguards wore red, with some 55 youngsters joining in the fun. In a competition to guess which member of staff matched their baby photograph, Stacey Ward was the winner with 10/10 and she received three months free membership at the Centre. There was also a “spinathon” thigh-busting challenge of continuous pedal cycling in the foyer beforehand. With entrance at £3 per youngster and a donations bucket at the door, the event raised some £200 for the charity. Deputy manager Kenny Butchers said “thank you to everyone that attended the ”Wear It Beat It” splashdance on Friday night, also thanks to everyone that donated to the charity and taking part in our guess the staff members baby photos!”
There will be another “swimathon” event at the Sports Centre on March 20 in aid of Sports Relief charity when the pool will be dyed yellow.
