More than 400 runners competed from a choice of 15k or 30k routes as part of the 2019 Ancient Trails Run last Sunday, September 8.
Starting outside the George Hotel and finishing at the Rye Sports Centre, competitors embarked upon a challenging circular route taking them through ancient woodland and across farmland on trails, footpaths and country lanes linking the Norman churches of Rye, Iden, Beckley, Northiam and Peasmarsh.
The undulating multi-terrain route covered much of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so runners had plenty to look at while negotiating numerous gates and stiles.
Catering to runners of all abilities, from experienced athletes to those new to running, the event offered prizes for the first three home from both distances, both male and female, first in various age categories and first male and female affiliated teams.
Organised by Nice Work, the Peasmarsh based road running and event management company, the Ancient Trails Run raised funds for the Oliver Curd Trust, a charity providing holiday accommodation for families affected by childhood cancer and other life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.
