1st XI v Glynde
Glynde 134, Rye 39
Rye hosted Glynde in a game sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, last Saturday. Rye were keen to regain top spot in Division 5 East of the Sussex County League, after rain the previous week had curtailed their game at Cuckfield. Rye won the toss and invited Glynde to bat first. Craig Pierce (three for 19) made early inroads into the Glynde innings as Glynde made it to 21 for four. Then the first of the rain interruptions bedevilled the Rye advance. Returning after the break Archie Burrows with 85 was the backbone of the innings. Supported by David Clark (23), Glynde were eventually dismissed for 134, with Sanduin Dias four for 28 and George Wathen three for 47.
The innings started at 12:30pm, but it was after 5pm before Rye began their reply. There was a sense of urgency to beat not only Glynde, but also the rain that was threatening again. Rye sadly were dismissed for just 39 as not one batsman made double figures. Craig Eaves (five for 13) and Will Burton-Durham (three for 15) did the damage. It was one of those days when the elements certainly conspired against Rye, and ensures an interesting end to the season, as Seaford their nearest rivals could only draw, so Rye did not lose any ground. Rye’s next two home games, are Limited Over format against Seaford and Rottingdean, their nearest rivals. So the team’s destiny is in their own hands.
2nd Xl v Glynde
Glynde 161-9, rain stopped play
Rye 2nds travelled to Glynde with a number of regulars unavailable due to work commitments. Rye won the toss and invited Glynde to bat. They batted very steadily from the start, although failing to make the most of a short boundary. The Glynde openers got to 50, before a mad dash to get covers on before the first downpour halted play. Another 50 runs and they reached 108 for nil when there was a second dash to get covers on. An early tea was taken, after which it was clear who had profited most from the break. Spinners Ben Clifton (five for 50) and Martin Blincow (23 overs, four for 53) saw Glynde collapse, and limp tamely to 161 for nine in 53 overs.
Rye saw the opportunity to maintain their recent good form. However a third downpour of biblical proportions put paid to the game, flooding the wicket, despite the covers. However, with 10 points, Rye moved to 3rd in Division 6 East of the Sussex County League.
This Saturday Rye 1st XI will host Rottingdean in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, the 2nd XI travel to Rottingdean, and the 3rd XI have their own promotion battle as they travel to play Crowhurst Park 4ths.
