Rye Town FC travelled to Bexhill Town on Saturday March 23 in an East Sussex Premier League clash.

With Bexhill flying high in the table how would a struggling Rye team perform with this stern test?

After only nine minutes of play, it was Rye Town which took an early lead through Rob Levett, Rye held on to the lead until the 32nd minute when Bexhill levelled things up and the two teams went into the interval 1-1.

After the half-time break it was Bexhill who scored the third and decisive goal in the 63rd minute, which saw it take all three points leaving the club at the top of the table with Battle Baptists and Sidley United. With all three teams on 39 points after 16 games and only two each to play, it is an exciting finale to the season.

Rye Town stays in 6th position on 18 points but is now only one point in front of Hawkhurst, which follows with 17 points. Jordan Kilsby was Rye’s man of the match.

Next up for Rye is an away trip to Northiam on Saturday March 30. Kick-off is at 3pm. The match sponsors are Mick Hovenden Upholstery.
