Rye Cricket achieved another hat trick last Saturday, all three teams washed away by the unseasonably heavy rain. The 1st XI went all the way to Cuckfield 2nds where they struggled through the rain to get to 147 for seven, before the weather finally won. The 2nds had Hellingly 80 for three, before an early tea and an early adjournment to the bar, where they were joined by the returning thirds who managed two overs away to Robertsbridge thirds.

MCC to visit Rye Cricket Club

Hoping for better weather this week, the 1st XI host Glynde in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. It will be an important game, as last week Rye slipped to 2nd in the league when Seaford won at Lindfield 2s, bowling them out for 41 before the rains. So Rye will be looking to secure maximum points. The 2nds travel to Glynde and the thirds are without a game as the opposition, Gildredge, have withdrawn from the league.

On Tuesday Rye welcome the MCC to The Rye Cricket Salts. This bi-annual fixture, which began in 2003 is eagerly looked forward to. Rye will be fielding a very strong side, featuring both overseas players, and the majority of the 1st XI. The game gets under way at 11:30am. The bar is open all day, and spectators are welcome.

Next week the U14s participate in the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival, with fixtures on: August 7,  Seaford H; August 8, Lewes Priory A; August 9 Bexhill H; August 10, St Mathias A; August 11, Glynde A.
