Rye T20 win and loss

On Saturday, April 30 Rye 1sts played in a triple header Sussex T20 at Glynde. In the first game at noon, Rye defeated Glynde by 8 wickets. Glynde amassed 175-5 off their 20 overs. Charlie Hobden 58 and George Burton-Durham 41 made the most of the small boundary on one side. Rye went past the target in 17 overs as overseas Carl Mumba hit 92 off just 45 balls and Luke Payton 58 off 31 balls.

Victory saw Rye through to play Bexhill at 3pm. Bexhill scored 191-3 off their 20 overs, with the short boundary being pummelled. Rye were in the hunt with 140-3 off 15 overs, but then a collapse and Rye fell short by 15 runs.

Upcoming matches

This Saturday, May 7 Rye 1sts entertain newly promoted Buxted Park 1sts at the Salts at 12:30pm in a match sponsored by My Sweet Etcetera. Rye should be at full strength to start their push for a positive season in Division 3 East.

The 2nds travel to play Seaford 2nds as they are strengthened with the arrival of Australian Kyle Scott in their line up.

The 3rds are playing a friendly at Icklesham, in a match to raise funds for St Michael’s Hospice. Match starts at 1pm.

Junior season starts

This Friday evening, the club is hosting a signing-on evening at 6pm – 7:30pm at the Salts for juniors, and includes a free softball taster session for young people aged 7 – 12 to give cricket a try.

Next week, the junior season gets underway. On Monday, the U11A team travel to Folkestone.

On Tuesday, the U15s travel to Egerton, and the U11 /U13s have their practice night.

Wednesday night is senior nets and U15 nets.

On Thursday the U13 travel to Egerton and the week finishes with the start of softball sessions next Friday – All Stars (7 – 9 years) are at 6pm – 7pm and Cricket Dynamos (10 – 12 years) are at 7pm – 8pm.
