It was the Rye 3rds who produced the standout performance last Saturday in their defeat of Westfield 2nds. Rye 3rds batted first and amassed 311-4 as the top order all hit half-centuries, 16 year old Tom O’Neill 60, Jonathan Walczak 59, Turan Hassan 53 and Richard Matthews 73 not out. In reply Westfield made a strong response scoring 227 all out. Phillip Harris top scored with 102. Seb Ross 4-38 led the bowling attack with support from 14 year old Lexy Tuddenham 2-21, Richard Matthews 2-49 and Ed Prentice 2-46. Rye earned 30 points with an 84 run victory.
The 1sts stumbled at Seaford with the bat and lost by 4 wickets, giving Seaford a double over Rye. Batters were never in on a pitch offering bowlers an advantage. Rye made 149 all out and in response Seaford made 152-6 in 32.1 overs. Rye had opportunities to squeeze the Seaford innings as Craig Pierce, Dylan Harrison-Smith and Harry Smeed took a couple of wickets apiece. However Rye remain in 4th place and extended their lead over 5th place Lindfield who scored no points in their defeat.
It was a similar story when Rye 2nds played Seaford 2nds at the Salts in a match sponsored by the Mermaid Inn. Rye batted first and scored 151 all out. Jack Barras 51 top scored with Blake Rouse 26 and Spencer Fielding 19 chipping in. In reply Seaford also struggled with the bat. Skipper Ben Clifton took 5-31 as Seaford slipped to 63-5, but then Michael Ellingham 50 not out and Beau Bennison 41 not out saw Seaford home as none of the Rye bowlers could generate a breakthrough.
This Saturday Rye 1sts host 3rd place Bolney who are chasing promotion in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, the 2nds travel to play Iden 1sts and the 3rds travel to play Crowhurst Park 4ths.
