Rye’s 3rd XI were back in action as they hosted Hellingly 4th XI at the recreational ground in Icklesham.

Rye lost the toss and were asked to bat first by Hellingly. Vince Rose made early inroads for the visitors as Rye were reduced to 21 runs for 4, George Channon then provided some resistance and looked to punish any wayward bowling as he scored 16 before being caught off the bowling of Callum Lainchbury (2 wickets for 23 runs). James Jury was the only other batsmen to reach double figures as Vince Rose took two further wickets to finish with figures of 5 wickets for 22 runs, Jury having scored 22 fell victim to Meg Loveland (2 wickets for 20 runs) as 10 man Rye were dismissed for 78.

After tea Max Goodsell took a wicket in his second over with the score on 3 and later went on to claim figures of 2-25. This bought Naresh Gatta to the crease who looked to hit the boundary scoring a quickfire 21 and saw Hellingly to 40-3 before he fell victim to Oscar Goodsell who then claimed two more quick wickets to finish with figures of 3-26. The remainder of the batsmen failed to reach double figures due to tight bowling from Mike Stoneham (0-7 off 13.3 overs) and Tom Martin (2 wickets for 9 runs). Hellingly eventually reached their target with the assistance of extras as they lost 8 wickets in reply.

This weekend (Saturday June 25) the 3rds travel away to face Crowhurst Park 4ths looking to get back to winning ways.
