Volunteers happily set about getting everything ready for the first RHSC Sailability sail of the summer programme at Rye Harbour Sailing Club on Saturday May 18.
The weather defied the forecast and the day brought a gentle breeze from the south east, making for ideal sailing conditions. With safety given priority this year, two of our sailors can be seen (right) ready and waiting to step on board Luey, the Sailability dinghy, an adapted Sport 16. This was also an opportunity to try out some lifejackets generously funded by the Rye Community Shop Fund.
With high water at 11:43am we were treated to bacon sandwiches, cakes and cups of tea and coffee as we waited for the tide. The sail was enjoyed by sailors and volunteers alike and there was no commercial traffic due that might delay getting on the water. After the sail the bar was open and burgers and sausages in rolls were a tasty snack for any hungry sailors and volunteers. A huge thank you to all volunteers who turned out on the day to help make it such a successful event.
Over the winter Luey had undergone an extensive maintenance programme and can be seen here undergoing sea trials.
