At last, the cricket season starts this Saturday with Rye 1st Xl hosting Ansty 1st Xl in Division 3 East of the 1st Central Sussex Cricket League, the largest cricket league in the world. The 2nd Xl travel to play Eastbourne 3rd Xl in Division 7 East. The 3rd Xl have to wait until next Saturday to start their league campaign.
The monsoon has relented this week, permitting work on the ground and for junior practice sessions to commence. Tuesday nights the girls section has begun, and Wednesday night junior practice has also commenced. The juniors start their league matches next week with the U11A hosting Ashford A on Monday whilst the U11B team travel to Mersham U11A. On Tuesday the U15s travel to Wye, and on Thursday the U13 host Folkestone.
On Friday May 12 the softball sessions start at the Rye Cricket Salts. 6pm – 7pm is for young people aged 6-9 and then 7pm – 8pm is aged 10-12. The cost is £40 for 8 weeks.
Rye welcome Aussie overseas player Blake Rouse this week, who will be playing for the 2nd Xl. Blake is an all rounder and we look forward to sharing our cricket season with him.
