The team to watch

In conversation with coach / manager Glenn Keen it appears we have some rising stars within our midst and Rye News is delighted to be able to support them as they progress. Unfortunately, last Saturday’s match was rained off but instead of a match report Glenn has kindly sent in this article for us to share with you.

The Rye Bay Whites under 12s have been playing together as a team since playing in the under 7s and I am proud to have been their coach and manager for the duration. It’s been a fantastic journey with plenty of goals and dramas but the team have always played with true sportsmanship and always with smiles on their faces.

This season we had a slight stutter, losing our first game, but since then, we have not lost a game and are currently 3rd in the league with four games in hand. This is due to the team playing in all the rounds of the Wayne Russell Cup where we have reached the final. The match was due to be played at the Polgrove in Bexhill against Little Common on March 26 however has now been postponed until 2 April, kick off at 2.00pm.

The boys have worked hard to earn their place playing some amazing football and knocking out some good teams on the way. Within the team we have a depth of players whose varying skills make the team what it is. Henry Cooke is the top goal scorer racking up 30 goals so far, enough to put him top of the stats leader board for Rother league. We are by no means a one-man team, as collectively the boys have notched up 65 goals between them and goalkeeper Harrison Keen, leads from the back.

As coaches, Steve king, Liam Sullivan and I are immensely proud of our team’s achievements this season and we have every thing crossed for next week’s final but whatever the result, we know the boys will give their all and do us proud. Our sponsors play an important role too and we would like to say a big thank you to Steve Lane of Classic Design Builders who sponsor our kit and also to John Masters of Masters Plumbing for their support.

Last but not least we are very grateful for the encouragement and support of all the parents who turn out religiously whatever the weather, they are always there and their commitment is unwavering.  Working together as one big team has undoubtedly helped us to get this far, who knows what the future has in store for Rye Bay Whites under 12s
