After a disappointing run before the Christmas break, Icklesham Casuals 1st team returned to action and recorded an important 5-2 victory over Herstmonceux at the Recreation Ground. They took an early lead through Phil Badrock only for Herstmonceux to turn the game round with two first-half goals from Callam Jones to lead 2-1 at the interval. An excellent performance in the second period from the Casuals saw Jack Barry equalise and Steffan Davies then fire in a hat-trick to complete the win.
The 2nd team picked up a very good point in a 1-1 draw with Battle Baptists III at Claverham School, a side to which they had already lost heavily twice this season. Icklesham started the game well and took the game to their opponents, creating several opportunities. They gained the lead when Jon Fitton floated in a free-kick which was guided in at the far post by Martin Tytherleigh.
The second half was a different story with Battle Baptists equalising early on through Jamie Crouch and then missing a number of good opportunities which would have given them the lead. It was Icklesham though who thought they had a great chance to take the points when they were awarded a penalty very late in the game only for the decision to be reversed following the intervention of the Battle assistant referee. Jack Swan was again very sound at the back for the Casuals and Kieran Dighton excellent in midfield.
This Saturday January 14, Icklesham Casuals 1st team travel away to face Little Common 2nds whilst the 2nd team entertain Robertsbridge 2nds.
