Last Saturday Rye 1st XI made the long journey to play Cuckfield 2nds on what must be one of Sussex’s most picturesque grounds. Rye certainly enjoyed the trip as they recorded their third win in a row. Rye batted first and against an attack lacking any form of pace, made best use of a very flat wicket. Openers Ruben Collingwood 90 and Dylan Harrison-Smith 35 lay the foundation with a 78 run opening partnership. James Hamilton 33 maintained the momentum and then skipper Harry Smeed kick started the charge, hitting 59 off 31 balls including 8 sixes. Cameron Cummings 26 kept the tail wagging as Rye reached 284-8 off 45 overs.

After tea Rye soon got to work as Craig Pierce took 2-25 and Dylan Harrison-Smith 3-22 with a stunning one handed caught and bowled. Cuckfield waved the white flag at 94-6, and meandered to 150 before Luke Payton took 4-15 and Cuckfield were 176 all out as Rye won by 108 runs.

This Saturday, Rye 1sts host Glynde firsts in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera, as Rye seek to make it four wins in a row.

Rye batted first and posted 181-4 off 40 overs, Spencer Fielding 43, Mark Cook 42 and Ben Clifton 42 were the main providers of runs. In reply Rye applied pressure and at 95-5 Rye were in the ascendancy. However Simon Eldridge 65 not out and Nick Pucknall 36 steered Willingdon home with 12 balls and 4 wickets to spare. Ben Clifton completed a fine all round performance with 4-20. So close to beating the team in second place in the division.
This Saturday the 2nds travel to play Glynde 2nds.

The 3rds on Saturday produced their worst performance of the season, losing by 6 wickets to Sidley 2nds. Rye batted first and were 110 all out. It could have been worse at 64-8. However 14 year old Lexy Tuddenham hit 22 and 15 year old Nathan Paine 32. Sidley coasted pass the target in 29 overs, by 6 wickets. Tom O/Neill 2-13 the pick of the Rye bowlers.
