Teddy bears’ picnic

As part of Rye Museum’s 90th Birthday celebrations, a free children’s event was held on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 14. A very busy afternoon ensued with 29 children and their teddies attending plus their parents/grandparents – 37 adults in all. The Ypres Tower top garden was quite crowded and everyone had fun. There were games to play – skittles, ring toss and bean-bag throwing. Also a craft table with children making teddy bear faces and masks. Of course there was a little picnic with drinks, biscuits and cakes. Children were entertained by joining in the action song, “We’re going on a Bear Hunt” and singing the “Teddy Bears’ Picnic” song. Picnic rugs had been provided and a few teddy bear stories were read. Thank you to the Museum Muses ladies for organising this – Heather, Sue, Sue M and Caroline.

The next museum event will be a coffee morning at East Street Museum on Saturday September 15 at the start of the Rye Arts Festival. An exciting new exhibition will be on display.

Also at Ypres Tower there are new exhibits and new show cases. It has a new hands-on smugglers’ display plus the audio tower – with sounds of the sea.

The museum holds a series of talks throughout the winter period at East Street Museum so there is always something going on. As an independent museum we rely on donations to keep the museum running. Contact the office for a membership form info@ryemuseum.co.uk or 01797 226728.
