The rule of three

Two wonderful things happened last week in our local hospitality world. And because there’s never two without three, a third, not so good thing happened.

I’ll start with the not so good. Any of you who follow us on Instagram @newsrye will have seen the CCTV footage that the Goatledge posted and which we re-posted. A gang of boys tried to break in to their premises with crow bars and when they couldn’t, decided to vandalise the huts instead. I’ll leave it there, as hopefully the police will take things in hand. All I will add is that the Goatledge in St Leonards, is my favourite beach bar and it’s only 25 minutes away.

The previous evening, further down the coast, at The Grand Hotel Brighton, the Beautiful South Tourism Awards were being handed out.

How lucky are we that the Gold for ‘Pub of the Year’ was handed to Nic and Nick from the Stag Inn, Hastings. Along with their chef Ben, they run a wonderful pub, music venue and restaurant.

And finally, last but by no means least on my list of three, is Vine and Country Wine Tours. Run by soon-to-be husband and wife team Jamie and Steph, they scooped their third Gold, for Experience of the Year. They are fun, dynamic and dedicated to the company they have created.

In my photo taken this summer, they are even enjoying the not so glamorous side of our industry: the cleaning up afterwards. We were at Charles Palmer in Winchelsea, with whom they work very often, running and catering wine tours.

For Goatledge last week, hospitality doesn’t always rock. But as I may have mentioned a couple of times before, for the Stag Inn and Vine and Country #hospitalityrocks.
