Two men have been rescued from the beach at Fairlight after two separate night-time incidents at the weekend. The Pett Level Independent Lifeboat (PLIRB) was launched twice, bringing both men safely to land and treatment.

In the early hours of Saturday June 2 emergency services were called after a young man was reported on the beach at Fairlight. Jo O’Hara, a spokesperson for PLIRB, said the man’s location meant he could only be rescued from the water. “We were tasked with his rescue at 2.58am. He was cold, tired, wet and had suffered minor injuries. He was also distraught with his situation. Four crew brought him ashore where we kept him warm and provided him with a hot drink until the ambulance team arrived. A positive result and another fantastic response by our dedicated team.”

PLIRB crew after Sunday’s rescue

In a similar incident, the lifeboat was also involved in a rescue during the evening on Sunday June 2. PLIRB was called by the UK Coastguard at 8.40pm to assist in helping another young male who had also found himself lost and in difficulty under the cliffs at Fairlight. He was spotted around 9pm when two members of the crew went ashore to assist the casualty onto the boat and back to Pett Slip and the waiting ambulance team. HM Coastguard Rye Bay and HM Coastguard Hastings also attended Sunday’s incident.
