Salts Farm Shop and Cafe on the outskirts of Rye is up for sale. The long established business on the A259 at East Guldeford is being sold because the current owners are hoping to retire.

The shop is listed for sale through Christie & Co who say it had a turnover of £500,000 in 2024, making a profit of £74,000. The leasehold price is £100,000 with an annual rent of £25,000.

The agents say Salts Farm shop is a highly regarded and successful business. “It offers a wide range of locally sourced produce, including fresh fruit and vegetables, meats, dairy products, and artisanal goods. The shop has built a loyal customer base and is a popular destination for both locals and visitors. The current owners are looking to retire, presenting a unique opportunity to acquire a thriving business with a strong reputation, loyal customer base, and excellent prospects for expansion.”

As well as the cafe and shop, the sale also includes a cold store, freezer store, staff room and office.

The shop recently had solar panels installed and is part of a wider collection of businesses that also includes a dog groomer, beauty salon and the Rye Garden Centre. EV charging points were also installed nearby.

The farm shop sector is growing according to the agents who point to 2024 statistics from the Farm Retail Association showing a 12% year-on-year increase in sales across the UK.

  1. We visited the farm shop, little cafe + garden centre several times and were always impressed by the charming, helpful staff, quality of the farm shop food and range of goods available at the garden centre. Everywhere is clean, orderly and well presented. We wish the retiring owners every happiness, they should be very proud of their achievement.
