Vaccination centre closes

Last Saturday, the Rye Vaccination Centre ended the latest round of Covid booster vaccinations for over 75s and the vulnerable. The centre saw the last of some 56,000 patients vaccinated since the start of the programme at the end of May 2021.

This has been a significant community effort by a small number of professionals from, or organised by Clarity Chemists led by Ankit Tyagi and supported at peak demand, by a pool of around sixty volunteers. Thanks go to the Rye Partnership for leasing a part of the Tilling Green community centre for the purpose.

There is no clarity about any future Covid vaccination programme but we wait to see if the UK Covid Vaccination Authorities recommend further vaccinations for those considered to be at high risk. The NHS has said that it is prepared to stand up future campaigns when and if expert advice is given to the government.

The Sussex NHS Clinical Commissioning Group has congratulated everyone involved in the Rye operation noting that this has been a “fantastic effort, demonstrating the power and commitment of the community working together with health professionals”.

  1. We are all indebted to Colonel kimber and his team for their Stirling work at the tilling Green centre, and getting56,000 patients vaccinated there, many of us campaigned for a centre in Rye, which at the beginning fell on deaf ears, with many having to make long and stressful journeys, as far a field as Folkestone and Eastbourne, until common sence prevailed.

  2. My wife and I had all but one of our covid injctions at Tillingham Green, the first being at Etchingham. The efficiency with which we were dealt with at both centres was nothing less than excellent.

It is not often that anything organised at short notice by local and national government goes according to plan, but on this occasion all involved excelled themselves.

Our grateful thanks for keeping us covid free goes to everybody who made this service run so smoothly.

  3. Excellent organisation on everyone’s part. Thank you so much. Just goes to show how things CAN be done.
