From April to October, we will once again be running our fascinating tours of Winchelsea’s famous medieval cellars, normally closed to the public. Led by our knowledgeable volunteer guides, each tour provides an insight into the history of the town, its role as a Cinque Port, and centre for medieval trade.
Tours take around one and a half hours and cost ÂŁ10 plus booking fee. They take place on most Saturday mornings at 11am between the beginning of April and the end of October.
Advance booking is essential, as the tours quickly sell out. This year you can do that online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/foam
Further information and a link to the booking site can be found on the town website at www.winchelsea.com
The tours are run by the Friends of the Ancient Monuments and Museum, [FOAM] and the Winchelsea Archaeology Society. The money raised by FOAM is used to maintain the Court Hall, the town’s three medieval gates, the well and the museum, which are all well worth visiting after your cellar tour.
In addition to our public tours, private tours are also offered for local clubs, societies, and special interest groups. You can get in touch with the cellar tours team at cellar@winchelsea-foam.org.uk
