The telephone by the front door to Rye police station used for out of hours calls has been vandalised and has had to be replaced. The damage was caused by a woman in her forties on Friday, June 30 at about 2:40pm. She is described as slim build with blond hair, wearing black clothing and carrying a pink bag. She was seen near the station on Cinque Ports Street for around forty minutes before leaving in the direction of the railway station. The police building was not open to the public at the time.

Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with any information is asked to call or email Crimestoppers quoting reference CAD 943 30/06.

The broken telephone has now been changed for a newer model. Rye police station is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday between 10am and 2pm.

  1. If a police station the size of Hastings is only open from 9 to 5 then a town like Rye has no chance.
I’m surprised a police station doesn’t have a camera or would that only work for the minimal hours that it’s open.

  2. Probably damaged by the woman in frustration.
I’m not condoning her actions but the lack of police in this town may have sent her over the edge.
