Gulls at Strand Quay

The herring gulls at Strand Quay are a real nuisance and often encouraged to be so by people, usually visitors, feeding them their surplus food. Flocks of the birds are generated each time people’s fish and chips are are thrown to the ground.

Two years ago we suggested to the harbour master that the current signs asking people not to feed the birds were old and faded and not prominently displayed. We were told that they would be “added to the list”. Of course, as usual, nothing has happened. It is about time prominent new signs were erected in the places where visitors sit and eat.
