Dear Editor,
Once again, we enjoyed a nice visit to Rye but in using our regular car park in Cinque Ports Street, found the attached notice on the ticket machine.
I have always thought it a great idea that we can check in and then out on departure without worrying about how long we want to stay in the town. Surely this is a retrograde step? Wondering what others think?

Use the Market car park – one fee for whole day ! Its less than 100 meters away from the car park on Cinque Part Street
If you have a mobile phone, download the Ringo app.
You can update time required for your needs in minutes or hours.
But agree, market parking is the best value.
The sign is not exactly clear. Rye is less than fifty miles from France, yet here is a barely comprehensible public sign that uses more than forty unhelpful words. Visitor (English or otherwise) friendly it is not.
Other car-parks may be full.
The sign is confusing, but presumably temporary until users are familiar with the new system.
I liked being able to leave the car park for an unknown length of visit and pay for hours used on return. However, it was hard to understand on a first visit, with a real risk of being charged for a full day if you forgot or didn’t know to present the credit card at the end of the visit. As someone else points out the Ringo app is a far better and very flexible way of paying, allowing you to top up remotely while away from the car.
