Peasmarsh and Northiam broadband boost

Engineering work getting underway to connect homes and businesses in Peasmarsh and Northiam, marks the start of plans by Gigaclear to take its faster full fibre broadband to under-served rural communities in Sussex.

More than 2,000 properties in the two villages will be the first to benefit from an initial £9 million investment in the county that will see the UK’s largest rural alternative network roll out its broadband to other towns and villages. A further six communities are already in the planning stage.

Senior project manager Jonathan Divito said: “We’re making great strides in extending the Gigaclear network to rural communities across the south-east and our move into Sussex is just one example of this. The next 18 months will see us increase our activity significantly across the region.

“Unlike many other broadband providers who compete to offer their services in dense, urban areas, we’re focussing on harder-to-reach communities that are far less likely to have a choice of supplier.

“Having access to fast and reliable broadband speeds is not something people automatically associate with living in rural areas. This is because, on average, those living in towns and cities enjoy much faster speeds than residents in rural locations – and Ofcom data shows this divide is growing.

“Our mission is to address this gap and bring full fibre faster speeds to residents in rural villages and towns so they’re able to work from home, stream online entertainment, scroll and gameplay just like everyone else.”

Gigaclear’s network already stretches across southern and central England reaching more than 420,000 properties. Sussex brings to 25, the number of counties it serves.

  1. Wonderful! We asked Huw Merriman about this 6 years ago and it’s great to be one of the first rural communities to get it.

  2. We are just outside Peasmarsh. This looked good so checked availability. Gigaclear very quick to point out that it was outside of their area of development, computer says no. Oh well…..
