Step up to the mark

With elections imminent, let’s hope those wishing to stand up for Rye town council start standing up to our district councils.

We have already seen a Rother parks employee putting goalposts on the Middle Salts against our council’s wishes instead of on the football and cricket Salts where these posts have been put up for the last 50 years.Try walking along Cinque Ports Street. There are broken paving slabs thanks to inconsiderate motorists, if you can get around vehicles blocking the pavement, then we come to two derelict sites blighting our town, one from a company that has the audacity to say it’s investing in Rye. One has to ask, what year?

On Ferry Road, the company that plans to build on the junior school site persuaded Rother District Council that they couldn’t afford any social housing or affordable homes and gullible Rother fell for it. With house prices going through the roof in this town at present, they will have doubled their investment when they eventually start building.

So it’s time for budding new, and existing councillors to start stepping up to the mark. No more passing the buck. No more usual excuses. Take your eyes off the mayor’s chair and stop the continuing blight on our town.
