The flood defence berm on the west side of the River Rother, just north of the Rye Lawn Tennis Club (and immediately adjacent to the field where the Club is seeking planning approval for a large indoor tennis facility) looks to be in imminent danger of collapse.
I believe that this subsidence occurred during March 21, 11am high tide, but it could have been the previous night.
I have sent this photo to the Environment Agency, suggesting immediate action, but I don’t know how long they’ll take to respond.
Ironic, isn’t it, that so much time, effort, and attention is being paid at present to improving the defenses on the east bank of the Rother, and no one appears to have paid any attention to the serious ongoing erosion on the west bank.
