To try and alleviate the parking problems in Camber, you may remember that Rother District Council introduced a daily parking charge of £30 but it had a negative effect on local businesses.
Visitors resented the excessive charge and either chose to do a U-turn and go elsewhere or park anywhere they could to avoid paying the fee, often across locals’ driveways, or in restricted areas, on verges, pavements and anywhere where a vehicle would fit. ‘Normal’ car parking charges are now back, lots of new ‘no parking’ signs are far more obvious and send a clear message so for now, at least, things have improved.
There has always been much debate about parking in our local area and particularly in Rye, a subject which, without fail, prompts a huge cross-section of views and reactions. The recent introduction of pay-to-park parking meters around the town seems to have now bedded in but many have resented being given no choice but to pay by credit / debit card or on their mobile phones via a parking App. But what about those who are not this tech savy?
Good old cash seems to be a commodity rarely used now but for those who prefer to use cash to pay for their parking tickets you now have the choice of parking in a Rother district Council run car park.

So there you have it, it appears that Rother District Council have listened to the views of their audience and have followed up with appropriate action so we all have the choice of paying by card or old fashioned cash but with one subtle caveat: as long as you are parking in a car park operated by Rother District Council. Will other operators follow suit?

Is RDC listening to anyone? Your car park charges are exorbitant. Are you not prepared to listen to people, especially businesses. Charges in Camber in particular are ruining tourism and having a profound effect on trade. It’s time for a radical rethink!
