Earlier in June Rye News asked the candidates from the main 5 parties to tell us their priorities for Rye. Here’s what Lucian Fernando, the Reform candidate in Hastings and Rye, sent us.

Meet Lucian Fernando: Your Dedicated Advocate for Positive Change, Tradition, and Community

I am honored to be the general election parliamentary candidate for Hastings and Rye. My journey in public service has been deeply rooted in our community, beginning with my tenure as a councillor in Hastings Borough Council. My passion for serving the public has been the driving force throughout my career. Today, I’m excited to share with you my commitment to our community, my role as a Reform UK Parliamentary candidate for the upcoming general election in Hastings and Rye Constituency, and my steadfast belief in traditional British values.

I have proudly served in the British Army Cadet Force and volunteered with the Metropolitan Police, along with numerous other volunteer organizations. These experiences have given me a profound understanding of the importance of dedication, resilience, and community spirit.

As your candidate, I am committed to addressing several critical issues that affect our constituency:

1. Controlled Immigration: I will work tirelessly to implement policies that ensure immigration is controlled and sustainable, protecting our resources and community integrity.
2. Restoring British Values: Upholding and promoting British values is essential for our national identity and social cohesion.
3. Supporting Fishermen: Our local fishermen are vital to Hastings and Rye’s economy. I will advocate for policies that protect their livelihoods and ensure their industry thrives.
4. NHS Support: The NHS is a cornerstone of our society. I will fight for increased funding and resources to ensure it remains robust and capable of providing excellent care for all.
5. Tackling the Housing Crisis: The local housing crisis needs urgent attention. I will work towards solutions that provide affordable housing and improve living conditions for all residents.
6. Transforming Hastings Borough Council: I aim to transition Hastings Borough Council into a unitary council, streamlining operations and improving efficiency to better serve our community.
7. Values and Approach: I am dedicated to fostering an open and inclusive dialogue. My approach to governance is rooted in transparency, accessibility, and a genuine desire to address the concerns of the people. By working closely with the public, I aim to build a community where everyone’s voice is heard and respected.

I am deeply committed to making Hastings and Rye a better place for all its residents. Together, we can achieve positive change and build a stronger, more prosperous future for our community.
