A quacking success

RNLI Rye Harbour has a new chair of fundraising, Josephine Jennings, the wife of one of the helms at the station, and she is certainly making her mark. This Easter she created a very successful duck hunt in the village, with children buzzing as they called out how many ducks that they had found, the sheer enjoyment showing on their faces.

Darcy Bruno, a visitor to Rye this weekend embraced all the Easter challenges she could find. First at Tilling Green at the Easter Event at which children could decorate a wooden egg, make an Easter mask, meet the Easter Bunny and the Mayor. Then the Easter family service at Rye St Mary’s at which she made Easter baskets, and then the finale of the Easter Duck hunt in Rye Harbour.

Jo Jennings sums up the event: “The ducks were hiding, the kids were hunting, and the village was buzzing! 91 children (and plenty of grown-ups, too!) successfully completed our RNLI Rye Harbour Duck Hunt on Easter Sunday – and together we raised an amazing £240 to support our lifeboat station!

“The ducks caused quite a stir in the windows of local businesses, and it was brilliant to see families and visitors exploring the village, spotting the escapees and enjoying the fun – even with a brisk sea breeze! This event reminded us just how lucky we are to be part of such a warm and generous community.”

Jo continued: “A huge thank you to our local duck hosts: Rye Harbour Motors, Bosun Bites, The William the Conqueror Pub, The Village Shop, and Rye Harbour Holiday Park Restaurant – we couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you to all the people who came to support this venture. Fundraising plays a vital role in helping the RNLI Save Lives at Sea.

“Thank you, too, to those who helped me with the stall and especially to Haiden who is one of our youngest fundraisers and goes the extra mile: and a special thanks to Tesco Tenterden for donating our wonderful prizes!”
