In a previous life, my 32 year career was in property and one of the bonuses of this full-on but interesting profession was having the privilege of seeing so many interesting and varied properties in some of the most amazing locations but also, having the chance to meet so many interesting people from all walks of life, many of whom have become friends as well as clients.
I also met and had many dealings with various competitors along the way and whilst based in Battle with Freeman Forman I had the pleasure of meeting Richard Bingham on many occasions, he worked for Batcheller Monkhouse in Battle, a true professional and a real credit to the industry.
Richard wrote an extremely poignant article for Rye News entitled Fifty Rounds of Chemotherapy which detailed his journey since being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016. Sadly, aged just 42, on August 30 2020 Richard lost his heroic battle.
On Saturday, April 23, Richard would have celebrated his 44th birthday and in his memory the sales team from the Battle branch of Batcheller Monkhouse, where he was based, will be taking part in a charity walk to raise much needed funding to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.
This is no ordinary walk as it covers the whole 31 mile 1066 Country Walk, which starts in Pevensey and ends in Rye along the route in the image above, in aid of Bowel Cancer UK. Team Batcheller Monkhouse have been undergoing regular training sessions in readiness for such a worthwhile cause including circuits of nearby Bewl Water but such is the sense of feeling and respect for Richard they are all going to be stretching themselves and giving their all, as he did.
Richard was a local from Udimore, the team raising money will be walking their socks off in his memory and end their epic journey in Rye.
