A quintessentially British affair

Bright blue sky and sunshine, a very good start to the day and just the right ingredients for a successful weekend at Peasmarsh Flower Festival which ran from Friday to Sunday last. The church of St Peter and St Paul is not only a spectacular building in a delightful setting but a church with a regular and sizeable congregation who share a passion for keeping it maintained and alive. What better setting for the festival and on arrival the first thing which struck me was how traditional the scene was, the church taking centre stage flanked by a plant stall, bunting and adjacent to the car park, ladies serving a superb selection of home made cakes and refreshments.

Inside it was a hive of activity; there was a real buzz about the place as last minute adjustments were being made to some of the fabulous floral displays. So creative and made with such skill and passion, the huge variety of floral creations were a sight to behold; so much colour and imagination and the pungent aroma of freshly cut flowers. Raffle tickets were selling well and the prizes were there for all to see.

I’ll let the photos do the talking but congratulations to all the organisers and volunteers who made the weekend such a success and, as for the homemade cakes, well it would have been rude not to indulge. So, being typically British, we took two slices of coconut and raspberry sponge home and ate them in the garden – they were delicious. The next task was to plant our purchases from the plant stall; decisions decisions, all locally grown and very good value.

A great annual event and one not to miss next year. Entry was free and it’s well worth making a date in your diary, if you missed it this time.
