A shut and open case

Rye News recently reported that Plaristo on the High Street had relocated back to its existing premises on Rye Harbour, and the prominently positioned shop was vacant but, unsurprisingly, not for long.

Within the blink of an eye the decorators and builders had got to grips with the place and the agent’s board confirmed the building had been let, but who to? Before too long, an ‘opening soon’ sign confirmed that the new occupant would be a bridal shop, Jacqueline Louise Bridal to be precise.

It is now open, the double fronted windows featuring some of their wedding dress collection with lots more on view on racks inside. With lockdown easing and the green light been given to venues to host weddings, what perfect timing and a welcome new addition to Rye High Street.

The new covered terrace at the Rye Lodge Hotel is causing interest.

On Hilders Cliff there have been big changes too. The Rye Lodge Hotel is now sporting a transparent marquee which protects its alfresco guests from the elements whilst they enjoy drinks and coffee on the terrace, or a range of pizzas from Francesco’s.

But if you continue along Rye High Street in the opposite direction dropping down along The Mint there has been a different change as the building which previously housed Southern Cross Travel, “an independent travel agency specialising in bespoke holidays”, now stands empty….for the time being.
